Your first appointment with Kate
Before your visit to Bloom Autism Services
As a person on the spectrum or a parent coming to an appointment the below information may helpful:
Where the client is under 18 it is recommended that the parent or carer comes to the initial visit without their child. This allows an open conversation and helps Kate to collect information that will guide support and assist in making the first session with the child run more smoothly. If you have questions or concerns re this, please ask to speak with Kate before making the appointment.
Hills psychology admin staff will ask you to complete some paperwork, this background information helps Kate understand your support wish list and gives her information that she can use in establishing rapport.
Use this paperwork to let us know if there are environmental modifications that Kate can make to create a sensory environment that is more accommodating, for example, dimmed lighting, white noise, availability of fidgets.
Bringing your own sensory or comfort items is recommended.
Access to the building is from Garrod Crescent Stirling not Mount Barker Road.
Payment can be made using self managed or plan managed NDIS plans or privately.
Predictability is power!
Where someone can predict elements of a situation, they can feel more comfortable and in control with what is ahead of them. For this reason, you may request Kate’s profile to share with the individual beforehand, this includes some info about Kate and a photo so the client can know a bit about Kate before they meet her.
You may also wish to view/share with your child the above photos of the spaces you will visit at Hills Psychology Centre to help you feel familiar and prepared for the visit.
