About Kate and Bloom
Guiding Philosophy
Why “bloom” autism services?
Kate believes that with the right self-knowledge, support and environmental modifications we all have potential to bloom. By empowering individuals on the spectrum and their families with these elements her goal is to see you bloom.
Kate’s hope for those she supports is that they develop a sound enough understanding of themselves and their learning style to be able to go out into their community and advocate for themselves in a way that creates them the environment that supports them to bloom.
About Kate
With more than 20 years’ experience supporting autistic people and their families, Kate has developed a compassionate, individual-focussed approach. She creates a sensory-safe and consistent environment and works collaboratively with families and individuals to explore their diagnosis and devise strategies to help achieve their goals.
Kate has worked across the full array of autism-support environments – from one-on-one with younger children at home, to schools, in employment settings and as a consultant improving autism accessibility for large organisations. She is committed to providing responsive care that acknowledges people on the autism spectrum and their families are the experts in their own lives. Kate achieves this by helping people to explore their personal experience of autism, by identifying and building on their strengths, and by equipping them with the knowledge and tools required to make choices confidently and advocate for themselves in all areas of their lives.
Kate is happy to work with people of any age or life stage. She begins new support relationships by sharing information about herself, the care setting and by familiarising herself with each individual’s circumstances prior to the first appointment.
She is delighted that her new work has brought her to the beautiful Adelaide Hills, in particular the gorgeous town of Stirling allowing easy access for clients living in Mount Barker, Murray Bridge, Strathalbyn and from suburbs ‘down the hill’ such as Kensington, Burnside and Unley. Kate is also set up to provide support via telehealth. One positive gained from our years in covid lockdowns and isolation is that we have learned that telehealth support can be effective form of service delivery. Now families who cannot access Stirling as they don’t have transport or live in regional areas can still access quality support.
