Inclusive Playgroup

Today was the perfect sunny start to the Inclusive Playgroup being held at The Hut Community Centre!

I am lucky enough to be working in conjunction with The Hut to offer an Outdoor Inclusive Playgroup which will run each Wednesday of school term from 9:30-11:30am.

Open to all pre-schoolers and their parents/caregivers, we are offering outdoor play with activities and play spaces that cater to the needs of neurodiverse children.

With garden space, sandpit, waterplay, art/craft activities and quiet spaces, there will be a range of activities with a focus on fine and gross motor skills, sensory exploration and emotion awarness building.

Inclusive practices for a playgroup involve creating an environment where all children, regardless of their abilities, backgrounds, or characteristics, can actively participate, learn, and have fun, here is how we aim to do this:

  • Information about facilitators and the site will be made available to families beforehand to build familiarity

  • Schedules and social scripts used to ensure clear information sharing and expectations

  • Visuals cues used to support communication

  • Sensory activities available and sensory flexible spaces

By implementing these practices, we can create a welcoming and enriching environment where all children can thrive and enjoy their playgroup experience and parents can feel comfortable and supported with their little ones.

Facilitated by myself and volunteer Ann who is a retried teacher.

Cost:  $2 per session

Tea and coffee available, BYO kiddy snacks!
